A Busy 6 Months

 I can't believe it has been over 6 months since I have posted. Just before my last post I had hiked a couple of the Adirondack 46 hikes (Donaldson and Emmons)./ After that I was hooked and ended up hiking almost every weekend and some Wednesdays throughout the summer and some of the fall. I ended up hiking 38 high peaks in just about 4 months. Needless to say I didn't have much crafting time. Then fall hit and I started classes...again, no crafting time. But during winter break I was able to get in some project time. 

I finished a quilt for my mom over the summer using some random fabric squares I got in a grab bag...it came out kind of wild but really fun. She (of course) loved it:

During the semester I started a quilt for a friend of mine that had been percolating in my head for almost a year. This was my first attempt at applique and I think it went pretty well:

Then, a work colleague gave me some "ugly" fabrics and I decided to challenge myself to make them into something interesting. I used a pattern I have worked from before and ended up making a bunch of wall hanging/place mats. There were 9 total, here are a few:

After that, I made a quilt for my car. This one has a sheet of the emergency wrap inside of it to help retain heat in event of an emergency. Currently it is with my longarm quilter so I don't have a photo of it completely finished but here it is:

Then 2021 arrived and I kept on quilting. This one was a kit I bought about a year ago. I decided to make it for my dog sitter because he has been such a champ for me all year with the frequent hiking trips and other random emergencies. He deserves a quilt (also because he thinks it is neato and therefore is craft worthy):

I also finished quilting one of my bay window decorative quilts. This one is for spring, but I have it out now because I haven't finished assembling the winter sandwich.

And I made a fun little block with the leftovers from the ombre weave quilt:

I did get a chance to cross stitch a bit, but I don't yet have a finish to show for it. 

Sadly, classes are startting again, so I will be going back into a work mode rather than a crafting mode. Maybe this summer I will be able to get in more quilting and stitching!

Stitchy Tuesday

Yesterday was an eventful day. I had my second physical therapy appointment and was looking forward to having my shoulder stretched to improve my range of motion when I received a phone call from my friend Jaspreet involving a lot of tears. She had just been involved in a car accident. Fortunately, I was headed over to the hospitals anyhow, so I was able to check in with her. After all was said and done she ended up spending the night here so I could keep an eye on her to be sure that she didn't have any after effects from a concussion. So what better thing to do than to spend the time learning to stitch (stitch therapy is real!)...

This girl took to stitching like a fish to water! She picked the Stoneware Cat pattern with a delightful Silkweaver Reflections scrap fabric I had (I think it is Jamaica Sunset) and Weeks Dye Works "River Rock".

I did end up working a bit on Black and White the day before. But, of course, I decided to start a new project (because one can never have enough WIPs).

This one is Dandy Dreams by Silver Creek Samplers. I changed the floss colors and the fabric color...photos to come as I progress!!

2008 Retrospective Slide Show

Ahh the end of 2008! What a crazy year this one was. I entered stitching competitions for the first time and actually won some awards. I also completed more projects than I ever have in one year. Most of them were smalls, but there were still a good number of larger ones.

I finished my first year long series project. That was the Quaker Squares. I'm in the middle of finishing them all as little pillows that I can display in a basket somewhere around here. I'll be starting a new series project in a couple of days.

Tomorrow evening is the first stitch-in of 2009 at my LNS. I'm looking forward to a relaxing evening.

2007 Retrospective Slide Show

This slide show includes all of my finishes from 2007 except the one with the bad word. That one will just have to go unrecognized in the public space for now.

This was a good year for me and stitching. I joined a stitching group at my local shop, completed more projects in one year then ever before, learned some new techniques (hardanger & crochet) and was very inspired by the stitching group on livejournal.

2008 promises to be another good year. Next week the town stitching group I'm organizing will start to meet. I have a pile of great WIPs to work through and a fantastic stash to pull from. I think I'll get started on one of the WIPs now :-).
